10, 11 & 12 October

What if the BIPOC queer community were the norm? BLQCK TENT invites you to discover what it feels like to break free from the structures that surround us daily—capitalism, hierarchy, sexism and racism. In this temporary space, you are challenged to explore alternative ways of being. Step into a world where different rules apply.

Creator and producer Sarah Jawla has created BLQCK TENT as an exercise in rediscovery. It is a collective journey in which we build, break down and reshape together. A space where queer people of colour take center stage and where a Black Queer aesthetic forms the foundation for new ways expression and of being together.
The immersive, interactive installation consists of three phases inspired by queer-oriented practice: the encounter, the playground, and aftercare. In these in-between spaces, we practice with different norms and discover what becomes possible when we let go of dominant structures.
Immerse yourself in a world that will make you see things differently.

BLQCK TENT emerged from BLQCK A Queer Aesthetic—a platform developed by Sarah Jawla with and for the BIPOC queer community. A movement that creates safer social spaces where we dare to re-encounter each other, by conceiving, guiding and creating art projects from queer-minded perspectives.
