Elf Bar, Geek Vape, Vaperesso, Aspire… What to do with the enclosures of your old vape?
Many disposable vapes contain lithium-ion batteries—perfect for powering DIY electronics! In this workshop, we’ll take apart vapes and reimagine them in unexpected ways, building DIY prototypes of wearable (queer) sex toys!
No prior electronics knowledge needed (but welcome!). We’ll provide the vapes, 3D-printed enclosures, and guidance. You will…
- Learn how to disassemble vapes and repurpose their power sources
- Learn how to connect components to create simple circuit-driven prototypes
- Get a crash course in queer sex toys with Nastia Cistakova
- Get a fully functional sexed-up vape for you to take home
Hosted by .zip, an art space and open media-lab in Rotterdam Noord.
Whether you're into hacking, DIY, or just curious about queer sex toys—come experiment with us!
Technologies of Solidarity is a three-day programme by V2_Lab for the Unstable Media in collaboration with engage. It invites participants to explore alternatives to dominant digital technologies shaped by corporate interests, asking what technology could look like outside capitalist logics. Through presentations, workshops, and artistic interventions, the event will examine past and present efforts in open-source, ethical AI, and analog forms of connection, while building practical tools and celebrating community-driven approaches to technology. On Saturday evening, V2_ invites you for a special edition Media Art Cafe with curated DJs and an interactive pub quiz for tech solidarity.
Cyanne van den Houten (they/she) is a media artist based in Utrecht and Rotterdam who seeks to uncover digital mysteries and make technology’s hidden layers tangible. Their practice is rooted in open-source thinking, collaboration, queer and feminist tech (histories), and a care for (DIY) tools that stay open and legible.
Louisa Teichmann is a Rotterdam-based media artist working with gaming and the effect of new technologies on perception. By analysing gameplay methods and applying them to real-life settings, she creates scenarios where players become the protagonists of an interactive narrative. Her work centers on audience-driven storytelling in mediums such as location-based games and progressive LARPs. She holds a master’s in Experimental Publishing (PZI, 2022) and teaches at WdKA. www.louisateichmann.com
Nastia Cistakova is an illustrator and artist exploring socio-cultural aspects of modern life through drawing, installations, videos, and workshops. Her work examines subjects including economic inequality, capitalism, digital culture, AI, and queer sexuality. Currently supported by the Stimuleringsfonds, she is researching sexual imagery in media and women who create satire.
