What could "technologies of solidarity" look like? Which solidarities would they express, and with whom? Join Varia (https://varia.zone) members Luke Murphy and Simon Browne to explore digital tools for solidarity in a PDF zine-publishing workshop, using the web-to-print software Octomode (https://git.vvvvvvaria.org/cc/octomode).
In this workshop, we’ll map and assess the digital technologies we use every day for collaboration and self-organisation, while discovering some alternatives to Big Tech, and community-led approaches to self-organisation such as Co-op Cloud (https://coopcloud.tech).
Luke Murphy is a software engineer and community organiser who co-founded Autonomic co-operative (2019) and Co-op Cloud (2020), a free software infrastructure project connecting 15 technology collectives internationally. He has supported organizations including Fashion Revolution, United Tech and Allied Workers, and lumbung.space (Documenta 15). Based in Rotterdam and a member of Varia, The Center for Everyday Technology, he focuses on local community technology projects exploring low-tech and democratic alternatives to Big Tech.
